UKJAS has launched an online database of UKJAS accredited certification, called UKJAS Accreditation Check. This database is free to use and publicly accessible, allowing anyone to verify the legitimacy of claims of UKJAS accredited certification.

Initially, Accreditation Check at www.ukjas.com will be focused on certified management systems, but there are plans to expand into product and personnel certification in the future. UKJAS is providing this database at no extra cost as part of our existing service to our accredited Certification Bodies.

What are the main features of UKJAS Accreditation Check?

• To offer a centralized service that provides further confidence to those who rely upon the certification provided by UKJAS accredited bodies.

• To aid in combatting fraudulent claims of UKJAS accredited certification or organizations who attempt to depict non-accredited certification as holding the same value as accredited certification.

How does UKJAS Accreditation Check work?

Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com) is a verification database and works by allowing users to verify that a claim of holding UKJAS accredited certification is valid. This is done by searching for the certificate number or registered trading name of the certified organization. This will result in the details of the accreditation held being displayed; including the scope of accreditation, date, locations covered, and the granting Certification Body.

What is required from Certification Bodies?

To make such a system viable it is essential that the database contains details of all organizations who hold UKJAS accredited certification. As such, all Certification Bodies accredited by UKJAS to ISO/IEC 17021-1 will be required to provide and keep updated data on their certified clients. This ensures that when an organization cannot be found on Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com) the user can be certain that they do not hold UKJAS accredited certification.

Is the UKJAS Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com) database secure?

UKJAS is committed to using services that are secure and adopting robust security standards that align with industry best practices in the areas of security and service management.

The following key measures are in place to ensure data security and integrity of the UKJAS Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com) database:

• The Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com) system is fully hosted and supported on servers based within the UK & INDIA and uses a variety of physical and technical security measures to prevent unauthorized access to or misuse of the data.

• It is not possible for anyone to generate or extract lists of certified organizations from UKJAS Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com); and as the system contains no contact details of certified organizations, supporting any mass marketing cannot be used for communications.

While there are clear benefits to holders of UKJAS accredited certification: giving their customers and stakeholders confidence that their certification is legitimate, there are other potential benefits as well. UKJAS is currently working with several organizations who require accredited certification in their supply chain or who provide supplier screening services; they are keen to be able to verify claims of accredited certification through Accreditation Check (www.ukjas.com).

This means organizations holding UKJAS accredited certification should find it easier to be accepted as approved suppliers in these areas and have further differentiation from unverified competitors.
