The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKJAS) plays a vital part in ensuring that testing, inspection, and certification services can be relied upon.

  • UKJAS is the India government-designated Independent Accreditation Body tasked with assessing and certifying the competence of organizations that carry out a wide range of measurement and assessment activities.

  • UKJAS is a key part of the India Quality Infrastructure – India’s national system that enables the quality, safety, and compliance of products and services. It does so on a not-for-profit basis in the public interest. The purpose of accreditation is to provide confidence to customers, consumers, and regulators in the goods and services they use.

  • Organizations accredited by UKJAS range from tiny test laboratories to international certification bodies.

  • UKJAS accredits more than 2000+ organizations.

  • UKJAS is recognized as one of the leading accreditation bodies worldwide.

Empowering Trade

  • Certificates issued by UKJAS accredited organizations and UKJAS’s partner Independent accreditation bodies worldwide are recognized globally through membership of:

    • The International Accreditation Forum (IAF-AB)

    • The Global Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (GLAC)

  • The international recognition of accredited conformity assessment means that goods and services do not need to be retested, inspected, or certified for each new export market. This simplifies global supply chains and reduces costs.

  • National standards can create trade barriers through requirements for national testing or certification. Where international mutual recognition, through accreditation, is also incorporated into countries’ trade plans and national standards, this can reduce those barriers, for instance by eliminating the need for duplicative testing.

  • Accreditation is referenced in the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade agreement, and the mutual recognition of accreditation is an important part of negotiations between trading partners.
